How It Started
The story of Matchoya begins with a love for Japanese tea culture. Our founders discovered ceremonial-grade matcha during travels through Japan and were struck by the difference between what was being served in most cafes and what genuine matcha could taste and feel like.
The idea was simple: bring that experience to Phuket. Create a place where locals, expats, and visitors could enjoy authentic matcha the way it was meant to be — prepared with care, from quality ingredients, without compromise.
Our Matcha — Straight from Uji, Japan
We source our matcha directly from Uji, Kyoto Prefecture — the birthplace of Japanese green tea and home to the world's finest matcha. Uji has been cultivating tea for over 800 years, and the combination of its climate, soil, and centuries of expertise produces matcha with a depth of flavor and vibrant color that simply cannot be replicated elsewhere.
